Detroit News Drives, Loves 2015 Porsche Macan

The Detroit News recently had the opportunity to drive the 2015 Porsche Macan around Ford’s proving grounds in Romeo, Michigan, and frankly, they loved it. By that, we mean Detroit News Automotive critic Henry Payne and an unnamed mother of two, who is referred to as “Momma Bear.”

Simply put: “The Macan is the best damn performing SUV on the planet,” stated Payne. Not only was he impressed, but also “Momma Bear” who was astounded with the Macan’s stability at high speeds.

The front-engine, four-wheel-drive Macan checked in at $94,095, almost double its base-price, and came equipped with Porsche’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 400 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The powerplant was coupled with Porsche’s ludicrously quick-shifting seven-speed automatic PDK transmission, helping propel the Macan from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds before reaching its top speed of 164 mph.

The Macan is capable of lapping the Nurburgring in 8 minutes and 15 seconds, while having backseats that are usable which is “good enough for the thousands of Porsche faithful who can finally buy Stuttgart’s finest – and still put their family in the rear seat.”

According to Payne, the 2015 Macan has the ability to outsell the automaker’s best-selling vehicles – the Porsche Cayenne SUV and four-door Panamera sports sedan – and strengthen the company’s racing program.

“With its four-door vehicles fueling record profits, Porsche’s race program is healthier than ever – even taking a shot at LeMans prototype glory this year for the first time in two decades. Isn’t that what made Porsche a legend in the first place?”
