Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk Makes The 2015 Motor Trend ‘Power List’

Our favorite rebel/genius/billionaire/visionary is consistently tacking additions onto his list of disciples; most recently, Elon Musk had hundreds – if not thousands – of techno geeks fawning all over him on his Ask Me Anything session on reddit.

And now, he’s made the Motor Trend “Power List” for 2015, which charts the top 50 most influential people in the automotive industry today, whether they be CEOs, designers, policy makers, or even celebrities. Mr. Elon Musk earned himself the No. 12 slot in this year’s list, up from his 29th rank in 2014 (though we would argue that any ranking system is going to be inherently unreliable and short-sighted).

So why the love for the wunderkind Elon Musk? “Musk made three big moves last year,” wrote Motor Trend. “He opened up Tesla’s patents on EV technology, announced an even higher-tech dual motor for the Model S, and broke ground on a multibillion dollar lithium-ion Gigafactory in Nevada.” And if Tesla Motors can pull off a Model X crossover sometime this year, followed by an affordable Model 3 sedan for the masses, he might just manage to help turn the industry on its head.
