Volkswagen AG chief executive officer Martin Winterkorn thanked the ex-chairman of the group for his contributions at the automaker’s 55th annual shareholders meeting on Tuesday, May 5th, 2015.
“The group and its people have much to thank Piech for,” he said. “We and I have tremendous respect for his lifetime achievement.”
In April, Winterkorn survived the public showdown that triggered the resignation of Volkswagen AG’s then-chairman Ferdinand Piech.
Piech did not attend the shareholder meeting for the first time in over two decades. He continues to retain a stake in the company, and has already clashed with the group about board appointments since departing in April.
