The Audi R8 is hailed by mane as the performance-luxury car to own. Not only is it blazingly-fast and simply a joy to drive, it’s also luxurious and elegant — something very few other cars can pull off. And the Audi R8 LMS Ultra takes the fast bit, and dials it way past 10. In other words, both cars are fast, and — simply put — awesome. So you can imagine our excitement when we saw this video of Chris Harris driving a production-spec R8 V10 S-Tronic back-to-back with the Le Mans-bound R8 LMS Ultra on the Nürburgring Grand Prix Circuit (a feat we hope to accomplish ourselves one day).
Interestingly, even though the production-spec R8 and the R8 LMS Ultra GT3 share a similar foundation, the $440,000 R8 race car has some notably differences compared to its production-intent brother. For instance, the R8 GT3 has a less powerful engine (as per GT3 regulations), two-wheel-drive (in place of the production R8’s quattro AWD setup), a different gearbox, as well as several cages welded to its cabin for added stiffness and protection.
