Ford Moves To Register “Police City” Trademark

Ford has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Officer for the term “Police City”. Our discovery of the filing follows that of other trademark applications by the automaker for Boxlink, Model E, Ford Protect, and Mach 1.

Filed on December 13, 2013, the Police City trademark application is assigned serial number 86143444 and is filed under the Goods and Services category of “Cars, Sport-Utility Vehicles”.

The Motrolix Take

As is the case with The Blue Oval’s other trademark applications, this filing appears to present an insight into a future Ford product. Judging by the trademark’s name as well as its categorization, it would seem that Ford is working on a police SUV for the “city”. And since the term “city” usually implies smaller dimensions, we’d wager a police-ready Ford SUV such as an Escape or Edge to join the full-size Interceptor Utility (aka Ford Explorer for the Boys and Girls in Blue).

And if the model in question is a police-oriented Edge, then it’s likely that the vehicle’s availability will coincide with the market launch of the next-generation 2015 Ford Edge, which will be based on the recently-unveiled Edge Concept, sometime in 2014.
