21st Century Drifting In A Tesla Model S: Video

If Nikola Tesla were alive today, do you think he would harbor any interest in drift culture?

No, perhaps not. His ghost will have to forgive us, then, for any viewing pleasure we derive from watching the video below, in which his namesake sedan – the Tesla Model S – screams around a drifting circuit in Tokyo, Japan.

We can’t know what the specs are of the Tesla Model S shown, but we know at least that it’s not of the D-badged, AWD variety. Motor Trend reports that piloting the electric sedan around the circuit is pro drifter Nobuteru Taniguchi, who won the championship in the D1 Grand Prix in 2001.

More importantly, how does the luxurious, elegant Tesla Model S get on acting like an uncouth teen? Not too shabby! After giving the car a go, Nobuteru Taniguchi remarks that the factory steering angle isn’t great enough to make it a proper drifter. Still, he adds, it’s a surprisingly fun car to slide around in.
