Dr. Winfried Vahland To Lead VW’s Newly Consolidated North American Operations

As a result of the widely publicized diesel emissions scandal affecting millions of its cars, Volkswagen group has consolidated its Canadian, American and Mexican operations into the newly formed Volkswagen North America. Prof. Dr. Winfried Vahlan will lead VW North America, leaving behind his former position as CEO of Skoda and boss of VW China.

Bringing VW USA, Canada and Mexico under one umbrella is intended to bring more attention to VW’s North American operations from executives in Wolfsburg. Vahland, set to become effective in his new role on November 1, 2015, will be given a seat on the Board of Management for Volkswagen Passenger Cars, which will help to improve communication between VW management and the automaker’s North American arm.

Despite reports that he would be fired, Volkswagen America boss Michael Horn will continue to lead the company’s operations in the U.S.
