Dodge Continued To Dominate Muscle Car Sales In 2023

U.S. muscle car sales fell three percent to 200,513 units during the 2023 calendar year. Of the four models that represent the segment, two were in the green, while the remaining two were in the red.

The Dodge Charger remained the best-selling model in the segment with 75,920 deliveries, in spite of a five percent drop. The Ford Mustang followed in second with a 2 percent uptick to 48,605 units. The Charger’s two-door brother, the Dodge Challenger, took third as sales fell 18 percent to 44,960 units. The Chevy Camaro placed last, though sales did improve a segment-best 26 percent to 31,028 units.

2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse

Motrolix Says…

Muscle car sales during the 2023 calendar year fell slightly as both of Dodge models were discontinued. Even so, 200k sales in the U.S. alone (not counting sales in international markets) represents fairly healthy sales volume.

The muscle car space is currently undergoing a shakeup, as Ford overhauled the Mustang for the 2024 model year, while Dodge will overhaul the Challenger as the Charger, with the all-new model getting a battery electric powertrain. Meanwhile, the last Chevy Camaro recently rolled off the line as the nameplate was once again discontinued.

We expect Ford to take the sales lead in 2024 by a wide margin, as it will be the only game in town for much of the year, at least until the next-gen Charger launches (the model will be revealed on Tuesday, March 5th).

We’ll leave you with this: if you want a Chevy or Dodge muscle car with an internal combustion engine, then walk run sprint to a dealer and scoop one up before inventory has been sold out.
