How To Program The Universal Garage Door Opener In Lincoln, Ford Or Mercury: Video

If you’re fortunate to drive a Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury vehicle with the convenient universal garage door opener feature, you may be wondering how to set it up. Thankfully, the folks at Ford have produced this video that outlines how to do just that.

Before getting started, you should know that the opener feature isn’t limited to only garage door openers, as it can replace up to three hand-held remotes including gate openers, entry gates, security systems, entry door locks, and those for home or office lighting. The programming steps, however, will vary based on the type of transmitter that came with the device you’d like to program.

The two main types of transmitters are fixed-code, which were produced prior to 1996, and rolling-code, which were produced after 1996. The fixed-code transmitters require a manual set up while the rolling-code devices change their coded signal each time the device is used.

If this video doesn’t help you in programming the remote, have a look at your vehicle’s instruction manual, as your specific model may require a different set of steps.
