The Fast Lane Car is often poking around in the Colorado Rockies looking for prototype vehicles, as the automakers sometimes bring the cars there for high-altitude testing purposes. It’s usually pretty easy to tell what these prototypes may be, but were almost out of guesses for the most recent mystery vehicle they stumbled upon.
We’re confident in saying that the camouflaged SUV is a Ford, but it’s hard to tell what it might be a replacement for. It looks a bit taller than the current Ford Explorer and although that car isn’t quite due for a refresh just yet, we could see Ford fast-tracking the development of the next-generation Explorer due to the importance of the mid-size SUV/Crossover segment.
Unfortunately, the engineer driving the prototype pulls away just as TFLCar is approaching in their vehicle with the camera. As a result, we only get a quick glance at the prototype, making it hard to distinguish exactly what the SUV might be.
