Kimi Raikonnen To Stay At Ferrari For 2016 Formula 1 Season

Speculation over whether or not Scuderia Ferrari would re-sign Kimi Raikonnen for the 2016 Formula 1 season has been swirling all year, but the rumors can now be put to rest. Ferrari has confirmed the Fin will stay in the No. 7 car for one more year, however who will drive the second Ferrari entry beyond 2016 is still a mystery.

In a characteriscally short statement, Scuderia Ferrari confirmed “that it has renewed its technical and racing agreement with Kimi Raikkonen,” adding in that its “driver line-up next season will still consist of the Finnish driver and Sebastian Vettel.”

The announcement shouldn’t come as a surprise to most Ferrari fans, with earlier reports indicating the team would retain Raikonnen for one year before signing current Williams driver Valteri Bottas for 2017 and beyond. That rumor has yet to be confirmed, though Bottas did allude to it being a possibility, saying fans “just need to wait and see what happens.”
