New Audi Q7 Will Debut At 2015 Detroit Auto Show

When the North American International Auto Show comes to town in Detroit in January, it’s pretty damn cold and bleak, but walk inside Cobo Hall and it’s like Christmas and Valhalla all in one. We love show cars and new model introductions, which is why we’re excited by the news that Audi will be unveiling the 2016 Q7 in the Motor City.

Indian Autos Blog is reporting that Audi boss Ulrich Hackenberg let the cat out of the bag during the Paris Motor Show that’s currently happening right now. “If you make a trip to Detroit, you’ll see it.”

Volkswagen Auto Group’s MLB platform will be the basis for the new Q7 which, not surprisingly, will have more aluminum content than before a la Audi A8, reducing weight by a remarkable 793 pounds.

As before, consumers will have the choice of six- and eight-cylinder gas and diesel motors, but the big news under the hood are a 3.0L TDI “Clean Diesel” V6 and a plug-in hybrid version. It’s likely all will be paired to a dual-clutch transmission and, of course, Quattro all-wheel-drive.
