Adidas Decides Not To Give Away Porsche 911 Carreras To NFL Camp Stars

You might recall a story that we reported on awhile back, stating that Adidas was planning on enticing fresh NFL talent at scouting combines by offering a free Porsche 911 Carrera to each of the three fastest 40-yard dash runners – if they signed with Adidas before the event.

Well, it turns out that Adidas had to back down from that one, and offer up three cash prizes of $100,000 instead. The issue, according to Yibada, was that the NFL already has an amicable partnership with General Motors – and the NFL folks would like to keep it that way. Offering up cheetah graphic-adorned Porsche 911 Carreras in a GM-sponsored sports franchise presented a bit of a conflict of interest.

Despite the arguably downgraded prize (although we suppose one could just go out and buy a Porsche 911 Carrera with the $100,000), Adidas did manage to ensnare three up-and-coming athletes into signing with the athletic gear manufacturer. We kind of wonder if Adidas’ checks to the athletes had that god-awful cheetah graphic…
