Watching this Porsche 918 Spyder burn to the ground, we feel a bit like we’re witnessing the Hindenberg catch fire: “Oh, the humanity! Why, God? Why?” etc. etc.

Word is out as to what caused this Porsche 918 Spyder to catch flame like an Italian race car. Our best guess? There’s something indicting about the car catching fire at a gas station. When spilled onto hot components – an exhaust pipe, an electric motor – petrol can, and will, ignite.

We imagine that insurance to cover fire damage is pretty darn expensive on a hypercar like the Porsche 918 Spyder. But if the owner could front the money for the $825,000 purchase price, we’re sure that he/she sprang for proper coverage.

We do wish that the girl shooting this video had kept the camera better trained on the burning Porsche 918 Spyder, and that she’d have maybe kept quiet as a sign of respect to the beautiful creature burning alive before her eyes.
