Straight From The Horses’ Mouths: The Making Of The 2017 Ford GT [Video]

The word “sensation” gets tossed around a fair bit, but with regard to the new 2017 Ford GT set to launch next year, we certainly feel that the word’s use would be no overstatement.

Ford Motor Company knows this, of course. That’s why this latest homage to the historic, Le Mans-winning Ford GT40 of yesteryear was developed in secret, and given its stunning, award-winning design by a team including renowned vehicle designer Camilo Pardo.

This latest video from Ford Performance casts a group of Ford’s design team to talk about the process of sculpting the 2017 Ford GT, but sadly, Mr. Pardo is suspiciously absent from the disclosure. What the team describes, though, is a project of such importance and gravity that we imagine it must be every designer’s wildest dream to get to work on such a car. Secret design meetings were held weekly, late at night so that they could be spared from prying eyes and ears; the car was built around a race-tested powertrain capable of delivering over 600 HP from just 3.5 liters of displacement; and of course, the team had the extraordinary previous Ford GT to draw inspiration from, not to mention the legendary, Ferrari-devouring GT40.

The 2017 Ford GT is such a “sensation,” in fact, that it will adorn the packaging for the next Forza Motorsport game for the XBox One. But let’s listen to the designers’ take on the project:

Aaron Birch is an automotive enthusiast and writer/filmmaker from Detroit, MI. As a rule, he only buys cars older than himself.
