Hennessey Mustang HPE750 Cracks 200 MPH Like It’s Nothing: Video

“If at first you don’t succeed, just add more horsepower and RPM and try again,” says Hennessey Performance Engineering Founder and President John Hennessey.

That’s a truly deep bit of inspiration, right there.

It also happens to be precisely what HPE has done in creating this new Hennessey Mustang. Its forebear – the “HPE700” Hennessey Mustang – churned out 50 fewer horses, and topped out at 195 mph when tested last February.

Now that HPE has fiddled with the engine in an attempt to squeeze more output out of the Whipple-supercharged unit, it’s time to take another stab at cracking 200 mph in this new Hennessey Mustang. The test was conducted on May 27th, at the high speed oval in Uvalde, Texas. Professional driver Brian Smith was at the helm, and interestingly enough, Jay Leno was in attendance, shooting for an upcoming episode of Jay Leno’s Garage.

To see just how far the new Hennessey Mustang pushes past 200 mph – and how easily – watch the video below.
