Interactive 3D Video Of The 2015 Ford Mustang GT At Silverstone

As of late, a number of different manufacturers have been taking advantage of 3D interactive video to stir up buzz for their product lines, and the folks at Ford Motor Company are cashing in on the trend, too.

In fact, just yesterday, the automaker put out a 3D video of the 2015 Ford Mustang GT turning a quick lap through the curves of the famed Silverstone Circuit in England. But unlike other manufacturers, whose 3D videos only display correctly on an Android- or iOS-powered smart device, the 2015 Ford Mustang’s Silverstone lap is also available in a PC browser-compatible form.

(If you cannot view the video below for whatever reason, the Android/iOS compatible version is available on YouTube. -Ed.)

The video was made mostly to promote the introduction of the 2015 Ford Mustang to the UK market, the pony car making its first appearance there in its entire five decades of existence. Ford says that 6 different GoPro action cameras were used to create the 360-degree view from the cockpit, but viewers can also switch between an aerial angle taken by a camera-clad R/C drone, and a third angle showing the view forward from the front bumper.

Professional driver Paul Swift, who manned the 2015 Ford Mustang GT through this exciting lap of Silverstone, said of the video: “I have never seen a 360° film of this quality before – it really is like being in the car.

“I’d love to tell you how it’s done but I’m sworn to secrecy!”
