Those in-the-know concerning all things Jeep might well remember the rugged, trail-ready “Jeep Wrangler Africa” concept which showed back in March, with durable steel wheels, a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel, and 35-inch terrain tires, just to name a few of its essential, function-over-form pieces.
Now, we’ve uncovered a USPTO document which shows that Fiat Chrysler filed a trademark application for the “Wrangler Africa” name shortly after the concept showed, on April 14th, 2015.
While this doesn’t guarantee that the well-equipped, no-frills Jeep Wrangler Africa will reach production, it’s a good sign, at least. Given its extensive list of well-suited equipment, the turbo-diesel Wrangler Africa ought to be to offroad driving what any Koenigsegg is to the track; that is to say, it will devour trails.
Okay, maybe that simile is a tad extreme. But in addition to the features listed above, the concept Jeep Wrangler Africa also boasts Dana 44 axles front and rear, auxiliary fuel tanks, and a winch up front to help you unstick yourself.
To our knowledge, this is the first instance of a “Wrangler Africa” trademark application.
